Dr. Desideria Cloyce and her colleagues are about to open the gates of Hell.

But that wasn't really the plan. Desidera was happy to live out her autumn years without attracting too much attention at Wortley College of Textual Analysis. Together with the rest of the Auletris Club, a secretive group of academics, she continues to live in campus housing and work on her hobby research project. 

When Dez receives a newly found copy of The Anno Constantinopolitano—the subject of her longtime work—she and her assistant discover a strange artifact in the binding. A spell, potentially. And in John Milton’s handwriting (author of Paradise Lost), no less. 

After Dez and her friends decide to test the spell, strange (and dangerous) things begin happening on campus, building to an unholy confrontation with the guardians of Hell and revelations that will seal the fate of the world.
